Trade channel ftw. Here's a simple concept for sellers to consider: when you don't want to buy something, or just don't have any money, what do you do? Turn trade chat off. If you're having trouble selling something, it's probably because it's crappy or overpriced. Spamming in local chat is really going to help you win over those people that didn't respond because they had trade chat turned off. THEY DON'T WANT TO BUY ANYTHING. Whenever I want to sell something, I use trade chat, and if what I'm selling is reasonable, I generally don't spend more than 10 minutes trying to sell it. Some things are hard to give away, and you probably shouldn't be trying to sell them anyway. Btw, caps or exclamations actually make an item seem less attractive to me, because it makes you seem desparate to sell it.

Close your eyes and picture pudding, the pudding you picture is the flavor it's going to be

As a sidenote, the reason why I include "Pudding!" as an option is so that people who could not find a choice that fits them can still vote in the poll.

Funny how i have no trouble selling most stuff in local i cant shift in trade for exactly the same price and 10x the time.

Very strange that

I actually did an experiment once when i first beat factions and could buy the +5 energy swords, i was selling them for 25k (AND telling people where they came from, i didnt try and lie and say it was a unique ect). I stood in lions and droks for half an hour each selling i think about 2, in 10 minutes of trading in local id sold 5. so you just keep telling yourself trading in local dosnt work, and ill just keep selling my stuff faster than you.

Anyway i dont wish to derail the OP's topic further so i shall eat my pudding and shut up. Besides i know im right and i dont care so phhhhhhhhhhh

I don't know, maybe it's because I don't care as much for pve, but whenever someone is spamming trade in local chat, I just turn it off because other than that, it's mostly retards or beggars anyway. I'm not saying that you don't sell things fast that way, but I've never had trouble selling anything. If you're selling something that people with money want, you should be fine using the trade channel, if you're selling things 10k or less go ahead and spam in local, you're already wasting your time by not merchanting. If it's so much better using local chat to sell, then why do I see things like: WTS godly axe!!! z0mG amazing!!!!! ----99... WTS godly axe!!! z0mG amazing!!!!!----100? Know where to sell, know what to sell, and trade chat will accomplish the same thing.

any trade chat in the local chat channel is pushy and assinine

if were looking, well monitor trade chat.. if were not, all youll do in annoy us

its there for a reason, use it

its hard enough to get groups of humans.. you know, for those of us that play online to play with others.. rather than a computer ?

i have to concur with aron in just about everything. i personally have trade channel off most of the time because that is where i have noticed the pushy and/or retarded sell their wares.

sample trade channel message: WTS CHEAP WEAPONS!!! GET THEM WHILE SUPPLIES LAST OR YOU'LL MISS OUT ON THE DEAL OF A LIFETIME!!! I FOUND ALL THESE WONDERFUL ITEMS DOING THE GREAT NORTHERNWALL MISSON!!! COME AND GET THEM BEFORE I GET MAD FOR HAVING TO WAIT SO LONG TO SELL ALL MY WHITE WEAPONS!!!

sample local channel message: selling (insert name of green item, decent gold item, or max weapon mod here) pm with offer

selling anything in trrade channel takes a tremendous amount of having no life to accomplish. the analogy to the handicapped spot only works if you are willing to consider all the people who turn off trade channel handicapped ^^.

That's not true at all, and saying so has absolutely no basis.

Aron has found a way to successfully manipulate a flaw in the system and is using it to his advantage. The analogy about the handicapped space is that it too is a 'flaw' in society, in the sense that if no cop is around to give him a ticket, he will get away with it. This is exactly the same in GW, as if there is a moderator (or GM or whatever they call them in GW) present there is a chance he will be banned for it, just as the person parking in handicapped spots knows he has a chance to be ticketed as well. The persons inconvenienced by this unlawful act (guild wars eula and criminal law, respectively) are the people trying to actually talk in local chat, and the handicapped people trying to find a close parking space. In theory, both the local chat people and handicapped people have a right to be in their space, however when someone like Aron comes along, that right becomes inhibited.

Aron tries to justify his actions by saying to himself that his gain (time) is far more important than the inconvenience he's causing to others. This is of course true, and only proves that Aron is a selfish person. This also shows how badly the internet clouds peoples reality by masking people and making them machinelike. If all one can see of a person is text, they are then much less likely to have any reservations about hurting or inconveniencing them, as in their mind they don't matter. A vast majority of people can walk the extra 5 minutes to park legally, because they know they have real-world things at risk, and that there will be a real person that they might inconvenience by taking their space. In GW, that reality is blurred to the point that most people don't even see it, which is why so many people are like Aron in their selfishness.

Whether you use trade or local (or the merchant like me) is up to you, and as long as you realize that using local is a clear violation of the GW eula (not to mention rude) then the decision rests solely on your conscience. You are interacting with real people when you play guild wars, believe it or not. Have some respect.

I really dont care if it bothers you, i will do whatever i have to to aviod spending huge amounts of time idling.

Local chat works, and untill a decent system is put in place ill carry on using it.

I shall also carry on not caring :P

Unless its worth more than 20k i set a time limit of 5 minutes, any longer than that and its either a freebee to guildees or it goes to the merchant.
I just have no patience to sit around for long pressing return.

Id love to just "fire and forget" like you can in an auction house, cant stand idling.
You should get some meds for your ADD then

In order to keep this topic on track, I won't address some of your thoughts in your post. I have, however, seen the above argument time and time again, and want to address it.

Simply because something that you "want" does not currently exist does not justify doing something that you know is wrong. The temptation is definitely there (especially when you see everyone else doing it and you have the experience that it is quicker), but it is moments like that when maturity (as you put it) needs to shine through.

Merchant is my best friend. If it's worth less than 5k, it's not worth the time to spam in LA. And if it's worth more, i'll auction it here.

Trade Channel. That's what it's there for. I don't care if it's 'more' or 'less' effective than the local channel (my life doesn't revolve around trading), but I know it annoys me if LC is flooded with trade spam, so I try to avoid doing the same thing to others.

That's just a waste of my time and effort, and I've never had a problem selling in Trade. The ones with Trade on are the ones that want something. That's just common sense.
O.o I never turn my trade channel off because though I'm rarely camping a town to look for something, you can often see something selling that doesn't get advertised frequently enough for you to be able to buy it any time of day you want. This is sort of the idea behind everyone using the white. Someone flying into Kaineng to buy some skills doesn't know they want to buy something until they see you selling that particular something.

Anyway, I generally use the color that everyone else isn't using. If I see a huge cluster of pink, I'll slam down a white; If I see a huge cluster of white, I'll slam down my pink message. More often than not it's the latter. I don't feel any guilt slapping down the whites though becase the first few districts of the main towns have been unofficially designated as trade districts.

If you're silly enough to try and start a conversation in ad1 of LA I'd say that's more your problem than mine O.o On that same note if you're silly enough to try and sell something in ad1 of LA you yourself have got some problems as well

Of course, though, this is all supposing I actually sell things in game. About the only thing I ever sell in-game is Amulets of the Mists every once in a while because I can get those sold in a minute flat. Anything worth selling though I bring to the Guild Wars Guru Auction.
As I see it the problem isn't that GW hasn't implemented a decent trading system, the problem is that so many people are too stupid to use Guru.
You should add the option "I use Guru Auctions" to that voting poll eh? O.o

Don't want to hear trade spam? It's not likely to ever end, so ignore it. Or stay out of major trading hubs. Or keep to less populated districts, reducing your encounters with it enough for it to not be much a problem. Or turn off local chat if it bothers you so much. Yes, it's annoying, but what are you doing that it's interefering with anyway? If you're talking with others, add them to your friends' list or go somewhere less populated. If you're looking for parties or help, you're likely to meet more helpful and friendly responses in slightly less busy areas. There are plenty of other places to roleplay.

People are doing it because the trade system is awful and they want to part with their goods as quickly and painlessly as possible, and greater exposure can help with that. It's selfish, but it's honestly understandable (whether or not you agree with it) and avoidable.

I only use the trade channel for trade, myself.

LOL, good point. Guess I need to keep it on to be sure, huh?

Eh, I'm not going to make that big a deal about it. Not like we can do anything about it. I've stopped complaining about it in-game, as it makes no difference. I have, at times, watched local for anyone selling something I have to sell as well, in which I will then severly undercut them in Trade everytime they spam. I don't mind a small gold loss to keep the local spammers from getting a sale.

Rarely do I trade, but when I have to I will use the trade channel for majority of the time while sending one or two messages through local chat every once in a while. Otherwise I'll try and buy/sell what I want on here.
